That if you are a Christian, you are a “servant” in God’s Kingdom? The Bible says that since Pentecost, the church is called the kingdom of God on earth. Of course, at other times the word “kingdom” is used in Scripture to refer to our heavenly home.
We Christians are called on to be to be disciples of Jesus. We are to learn of Him and follow Him. Luke 9:23 says “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.” The word “cross” is a reference to SELF DEATH.
I have heard some say that their “cross to bear” in life is their mate or job or children or etc. Your cross and my cross are the same; a death to self! No one can be a servant who lives for himself or herself.
Jesus said He had not come to this earth to be served, but to serve. (Matthew 20:28) Christ came to give Himself as a ransom for many. Too many of us are like Hambone in the funny paper from days gone by. He said “I know the Lord has said that it is more blessed to give than to receive, but “receiving” is good enough for me!
Jesus taught that the greatest in the Kingdom is the one who serves, NOT the one who is served. When I consider this subject, I always think of 2 words: Selfish and Selfless.
Which one describes you?
