God wants His children to enjoy His love and mercy. He wants us to be holy. He chose us to represent Him to a sin sick world. We must not be worthless because we have been chosen by the best!!
Most of us know what it feels like to be rejected. Maybe you have been spurned by a fellow worker or a family member. I recall my days in elementary school when at recess (my favorite subject) there would be a softball game. Teams would be chosen and I would wait for my name to be called. Often I was chosen reluctantly near the last along with some of the stronger girls. However, on rare occasions a friend of mine would choose the teams. I would be one of the first to be selected and would even get to be the pitcher.
Bob Hendren writes “So it is with God’s choice. We have no ability, no claim on His grace, no spiritual muscles to flex in His face. We have nothing but our need for a friend. Our Friend chooses us. Who could say no to being on such a team?”
Of course, we choose to be among the chosen when we submit to the Gospel of Christ. At which time God calls on us to be “holy and without blame”. The root idea of the word holy is the word saint. It means we are to be dedicated and consecrated to God.
