And Then Some

12/30/2018

When I was in sales, I remember a slogan that a customer had posted behind a counter.  It read “And Then Some”.  I asked what it meant.  They said we are going to do everything we can to please you, and then some.

A great slogan!  I began to think what if we would all use this slogan in the coming New Year.  Would it make any difference?

1. What if we would be more interested in presenting the Gospel (Good News) to others, “And Then Some”?  We are working on starting a Neighborhood Bible Study (NBS) where we would meet on a regular basis with friends in our homes (more on this later).  Our Lord Jesus has commissioned us to take the Gospel into all the world.  Are we?

2. What if we were more concerned about helping to edify our brethren, “And Then Some”?  Edification is much needed to help to stay build up in the Lord.  We need to be like Barnabas, who was a great encourager!

3.  What if we were more committed to helping others less fortunate than we, “And Then Some”?  The Bible says Jesus went about doing good (Acts 10:38).  Most of us have plenty, and then some.  God has always been concerned with the poor of this world.  Are we?

A Personal Relationship with Jesus

12/2/2018

Colossians 2:6 says, “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him.”  Question: What does it mean to receive Christ as Lord?  Many in the religious world have been taught it means to say the “Sinner’s Prayer”.   Others have been taught it means to invite Jesus into your heart.

I believe in prayer and in Jesus living in one’s heart.  However, When the Apostle Peter was asked by those who had just crucified Jesus, he told them (based on their faith) to repent and be baptized in the name of Christ for the remission of sins and to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, (Acts 2:38).

I believe in having a personal relationship with Jesus.  It will keep you walking as He walked. It will keep you loving as He loved.  It will keep you giving as He gave and it will keep you forgiving as He forgave.

One’s relationship with Jesus must be personal!  We are saved or lost according to what we have done with respect to Jesus.   He said “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments,” (John15:14).

Some seem to think that the Bible is their savior, but the Bible simply tells us who our Savior is and how to receive Him and walk in Him.

Think about it.
