If God gets the giver, He will get the gift.
It is more blessed to give than to receive.
Give as you have been prospered.
God loves a cheerful giver.
Give and it will be given to you.
Good sayings. I can see you nodding your heads in agreement. However, when it comes to sacrificial giving, too many nod that it should be practiced, but few seem to give sacrificially. Paul tell us how to be liberal givers in II Corinthians 8:5. He was using the Macedonian churches as an example of giving. They were poverty stricken and yet they gave liberally. The verse says, “…they first gave themselves to the Lord.” This is the key to sacrificial giving.
A big silver dollar and a little brown cent,
Rolling along together they went.
Rolling along down the smooth sidewalk,
When the dollar remarked, for the dollar can talk,
You poor little cent, you cheap little mite.
I am bigger than you and twice as bright.
Why I am worth more than you a hundred fold.
And on me written in letters bold.
Is the motto drawn from the pen’s creed,
“in God we trust” which all can read.
I know said the cent, I’m a cheap little mite.
I know I’m not big nor good nor bright.
And yet said the cent with a meek little sigh,
You don’t go to church as often as I.
