Notice that we Christians are to be living stones, not dead. You see, that it is possible to be alive but not lively. We all know there are some in this building that are not very lively. Their lives do not reflect faith in the sense of trust and obedience. Those who have chosen Jesus as their Lord and Savior will imitate Him. He will be precious to us who believe. Peter says, “…but to those who are disobedient, Jesus is a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense.” (I Peter 2:7)
There is an old story told about the king of Sparta. It seems he was always boasting about the walls of Sparta. How they were a great protection for his city. One day a visitor came to see the king. He asked, “where are the walls you are always bragging about?” The old king pointed to one of his magnificent soldiers and said, “there are the walls of Sparta every man a stone.”
Every Christian is to be a lively stone in the house of God which is the church. (I Timothy 3:15)
What kind of stone are you?
