Someone may say, “I have some habits that I am not sure about. I don’t know if they are right or wrong. Can you help me to decide? Yes. The Bible gives us some principles that will help us answer this inquiry.
Principle #1 – Will it be helpful to me? I Corinthians 6:12, “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful...but I will not be brought under the power of any.” Is it helpful to me physically, mentally and spiritually? If not, don’t make it a habit!
Principle #2 – Will it cause others to stumble? I Corinthians 8:12, 13 “But when you thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will eat no meat while the world stands, lest I make my brother stumble.” I must not make it a habit.
Principle #3 – Will it bring glory to God? I Corinthians 10:31 “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” If what you say or do is not glorifying to God, then a habitual pattern must be abandoned.
The next time you are undecided about a practice, will you use these principles to decide right from wrong?
