However, there are some present works that are still going on. Let us think of a few.
- Mediator - Jesus is our “go-between” the Father and us. (I Timothy 2:5) He mediates for us as He is at the Father’s right hand.
- Advocate - the meaning is “one who stands alongside another and pleads his/her case”. Like a lawyer would do in a court room. Satan says this person is guilty because he/she has sinned. Jesus says this person is innocent because he/she has obeyed the Gospel and been covered by my reconciling blood. We sometimes sing “Oh What a Savior”.
- Great High Priest - the Hebrews writer says we have one who can sympathize with all our weaknesses; one who was tempted in all points as we are, YET WITHOUT SIN. Jesus has taken care of our sins by becoming a onetime sacrifice for all sin. Christ has indeed FINISHED His work of making salvation possible for everyone (Hebrews 2:9) sadly, not everyone will be saved because they have rejected the gift of God. They have” spurned the invitation” as we also sing. I had a college professor who used to say, “God votes YES; Satan votes NO and YOU cast the deciding vote!
